Become A Super Coupon Ninja!!

There are lots of coupons up for grabs, if you know where to find them. By far, the best places to look are:

Newspapers- the Smart Source and Valassis coupon inserts appear on a near-weekly basis. The Procter and Gamble insert appears at the start of each month.
Magazines- women's publications such as Woman's Day, Red Book, Family Circle and Good Housekeeping frequently carry manufacturer coupons.
In store- look for coupons on store shelves, on products and on the back of your receipts. Also look for coupons to print out at the register

Additional places to look:

Online- look to free grocery coupon sites for loads of printable coupons. Not all stores take them; but if yours does, you’re in luck
Junk mail- high-value manufacturer coupons have started to appear in junk mailers, so be sure to look before you toss
Direct from the manufacturer- check manufacturer websites for printable coupons or contact companies (by mail, e-mail or phone) torequest coupons
Store mailings- get a frequent shopper card for the grocery stores that you shop, and you may be rewarded with special coupon mailings
On products- look in and on the packaging of the products that you buy for special loyalty coupons

How to Keep Coupons Organized

There are lots of ways to organize coupons; the key is to find the approach that works best for you. Three options to consider:

Clipping out all coupons
Clipping out just the coupons that you intend to use
Leaving the coupon inserts intact, and clipping coupons on an "as-needed" basis

Whichever approach you choose, there are several things that you can do to ensure that your coupons remain neat and accessible:

1. Develop a filing system. Many couponers organize their coupons by grocery category--dairy, frozen foods, deli, etc. – but it's not the only way to go. Find a filing system that works for you--by aisle, by expiration, etc. – and put it into action.
2. Find a container to hold your coupons. Use a shoebox, a storage container, a coupon binder, a coupon wallet or a recipe box – it doesn't matter what you choose – but it's important to have a landing spot for all of those coupons.
3. File coupons the same day you get them. Okay, so you may not always have time to file your coupons right away, but try to file them as soon as you can. This will prevent them from getting lost, and save you the hassle of having to sort through a big mess of coupons all at once.
4.Purge regularly. Expired coupons won't save you money, so don't let them hog space in your coupon file. Set a schedule for purging expired coupons, and stick to it.

Tips:

1. Because of the fact you may potentially almost make a steal, don't be so dead set on "brand loyalty." Be flexible!

2. I file my coupons by aisles in the commissary and move them from one slot to another once the item is in my cart. This way there is no potential of dropping the coupon or forgetting its there by accident. All of the slots will be empty once I am through and all items are marked of my list with a bright highlighter pen.

3. The commissary does NOT allow stacking. However, if you find a young cashier they never say anything.

4. Search for coupons on your favorite items when you run into the store for something small like bananas. I can't begin to think how many times I found good value coupons for items when I was just dropping in. When I came back for my big shopping trip, they were all gone.

5. Organization is key to you not getting confused or frustrated. I like to write out how many of the items i need to purchase in order t use the coupon AND how many different coupons I have for the items so I can use them all and not forget any.

6. Generally, the commissary has "beauty" coupons most days, such as AXE for men. There are most often Axe coupons in Sunday papers or in the coupon flyer's at the entrance to the commissary.

7. ALWAYS pick up the flyers/coupon packs at the front entrance (on the right hand side next to the doors to the food court.) Lots of valuable coupons!!!

8. Relax and Enjoy watching your grocery bill drop!!!!!

Joint Base Easter Egg Hunt APRIL 16th

We are currently looking for volunteers for our MOPPETS program beginning in September. We will meet the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, and it would require a 2.5 hour commitment.

MOPPETs is our childcare program for kids ages 6 months to pre-k (4-5yrs old). You will lead them in singing, crafts, read a story, play games, etc. Our leadership will be happy to write a letter on our behalf to document your generous volunteering.

Hard to believe we've wrapped up MOPS 2009-2010!!! We had a wonderful year; our group has grown (both new moms and new babies!) and I know I'm looking forward to a summer full of playgroups and outings!

Our Steering Team will be meeting soon to plan a laid back summer. Our group does not hold "official" meetings over the summer, but who wants to wait 3 months to have some Mommy time?!? We will plan simple get togethers like playgroups, swimming, zoo, Sesame Place, etc.

(Donations also accepted from 8am-9am on Saturday). Those that donate may return at 9am on Saturday to "swap" their donated items for new items! The Swap will then open to the base wide community at 10am.

Ladies: We have a unique opportunity to recognize an amazing woman that has served MOPS faithfully for three years. If you do not know Chrissy's wonderful story, here is her bio submitted to the 2010 Military Motherhood Award Nominee (in which she made the Top 20! - instructions on voting are at the bottom)

Chrissy Stanford is a dynamic wife and mother, always prepared to serve her family, community and country. It is common knowledge that the service member’s spouse sacrifices more than the member himself, but Chrissy has sacrificed in a way few others have. She gave birth to a child while I was deployed -- twice. In 2007, she gave birth to our son, Cole, while I deployed to Afghanistan for five months. Once again, in 2009, she gave birth to our daughter, Alexandra, while I was back in Afghanistan for a six-month tour. And in between, she held the family together while I spent six months in Iraq during 2008. In 2006, Chrissy also deployed to Iraq while serving for three years on active duty in the Air Force. Chrissy is also a devoted volunteer on base and in the community. She serves as the president of Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) in coordination with the base chapel, which serves 25-30 other mothers across Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. She has also served as the operational treasurer for the past two years for the Military Officers Spouses Club, maintaining a $30,000 budget in support of numerous fundraisers and charity events. Furthermore, she is active in a local church, supporting holiday events, Bible studies and serving in the nursery. Thus, for each of the past four years, and five of the last six years, either Chrissy or I were deployed. Yet Chrissy never complained. She not only survived, but excelled, maintaining a strong family while contributing to the base and community. She always responded to the challenge with a positive attitude and did her duty, as an airman, wife, mother and friend.

You can vote for Chrissy at 2010 Military Motherhood Award. Either way, her recognition in the top 20 is just a small acknowledgement of her sacrifice and her inspiration to all of us Moms!

Today our speaker, Mr. Wolf, shared with us some FANTASTIC insights into gardening. He has two locations (Lumberton & Pemberton) and they are getting ready for their season and expect to open around May. We (as a MOPS group) are discussing the opportunity to have a potting session, farmers market, etc.

His Lumberton location is at the corner of Rt 38 and 541 (Mt Holly ByPass) across from Lowe's and Shoprite. His Pemberton location is on 630 (Pemberton Rd/Woodlane Rd) before you get to Rt 206, on the right hand side.

Even a non-gardener (like myself!) is inspired and may even attempt my first ever herb garden this year!!

Recipes from today's meeting

Karyn emailed her recipe for hashbrown casserole to share with everyone:

3 cups frozen hash brown potatoes

1/3 cup melted butter

1 cup ham

1 cup cheese

3 beaten eggs

1/2 milk (give or take depending on size of eggs, I use Large eggs)

salt & pepper

* I do not use exact measurements. I just use what looks good*

Preheat Oven to 425 degrees.

Put hash brown potaotes in 9x13 casserole. Pour melted butter over potatoes evenly. Bake for 25 mins at 425. Take out and cool for 10 mins. After taking out potatoes lower oven temp to 350 degrees.

After cooling down for 10 mins, top potaotes with cheese. Mix eggs, milk, ham, salt & pepper together and pour over hash browns and cheese.

Bake uncovered for 25-30 additional mins at 350.

1/28/2010 - WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Military families now have free access to an online network of caregivers who can assist with everything from babysitting to dog walking.

Sittercity is the nation's largest online source for local babysitters, nannies, elder care providers, dog walkers, housekeepers and tutors, and contains more than 1 million caregiver profiles, officials said.

Military members and their families can activate their membership by going to http://www.sittercity.com/dod.

The Sittercity Corporate Program, funded by the Defense Department, offers military families, including active-duty, Guard and Reserve members, with a paid membership to the site.

"We believe that access to Sittercity's nationwide network of quality care providers will be highly beneficial to our servicemembers and their families," said Tommy T. Thomas, the deputy undersecretary of Defense for military community and family policy.

The paid membership enables military families entry to a custom-built Defense Department Web site portal where they can match up caregivers to their situation; gain instant access to caregiver profiles that include background checks, references and reviews; and find military-certified care providers as well as caregivers who are military-subsidized and authorized access to a military installation.

The site will help meet the unique needs of military families as they face deployments, long hours at work and assignments to remote locations, Mr. Thomas said.

"Because of the mobile nature of military life, trusted community resources are often difficult to identify and locate," he acknowledged. "These online tools will help service and family members attain the best match between resource and need."

Servicemembers and their families can rest assured that they're being provided with top-notch care, Mr. Thomas said. The site "links military family members with somebody that the Department of Defense says, 'We've entrusted you to provide this service to our people.' If that military member is out on the front line knowing that the family back home has a sense of ease and comfort, life is good for everybody."

While the membership is free, servicemembers will be responsible for the hiring and payment of caregivers, officials said.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JB-MDL) is participating the "DePLAYment" program for families of deployed military. The program is designed to provide respite and support to the families of deployed and allows them to enjoy specified base activities for free or reduced fees.

To do so, families can come to any of the Warfighter and Family Readiness Centers (WFRC) on the joint base and pick up "DePLAYment" tags that can be used at force support facilities such as the JB MDL Youth Center, arts and crafts center, bowling center, Golf Course, auto hobby shop and outdoor recreation.

All active duty members with dependents, upon issuance of deployment orders and up to three months after the deployment, are eligible for the DePLAYment tags. Eligible dates are 1 July 2009 to 1 July 2010, even if member has returned.

The DePLAYment program is part of the Year of the Military Family year-long initiative that recognizes and celebrates the contributions of the military and their families by highlighting programs and services that support the military family.

Family members or deploying Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors may pick up the tags at any JB W&FRC (McGuire, Dix, Lakehurst) by providing a copy of the sponsor's orders. Tag-pass holders will use the computers in the Centers to log on to www.myairforcelife.com to register their pass and receive more information on the program. Their access to the site is their unique tag code placed on the tag itself.

The tags will be available for pick-up at any JB MDL W&FRC immediately.

H1N1 Vaccination Clinic

One last reminder to everyone about the H1N1 Vaccination Clinic that will be held tomorrow, 22 Jan 2010, at the Chapel 1 Annex on McGuire. It is open to all beneficiaries (Active Duty, Active Duty Family Members, Retirees, etc). Please send your active duty personnel who have not yet received this MANDATORY vaccination to the Chapel 1 Annex tomorrow between 0730-1900 hours.

The 87 MDG will be offering H1N1 Vaccinations to all eligible beneficiaries:
WHEN: 22 Jan 2010
WHERE: Chapel 1 Annex (Bldg 2503 East Arnold Ave)
TIME: 0730-1900
No other vaccinations will be offered at the Chapel. The main immunizations clinic will be open normal duty hour to help with all other vaccination requirements or concerns. Please direct any questions to them at 609-754-9209.

MOPS Adopt 2009

Happy Veterans Day! Thank YOU for your service to our country, we cannot deny the sacrifices the families make everyday to protect and defend.

This year for the Christmas season, we have adopted a single mother (Yvonne) and her 4 young boys. We hope to brighten their Christmas with toys, clothes and food. MOPs Adopt was a big hit last year, and I know this family will be just as grateful for whatever we can provide. Please bring your gifts to the December 8th meeting OR contact Julie Krebs (email for telephone number) to arrange pickup.

TOYS: The older 2 boys love Ben 10, Batman and Spiderman. The younger boys love board books, blocks, and soft "baby" toys.

CLOTHES: Boys wear sizes 10,5T, 3T & 6-9 months

FOOD: Any non-perishable (boxed or canned) food

.......and don't forget MOM: Any little gifts to make her feel special and loved will be great!

And please keep this family in your prayers on the 17th as Yvonne's 2 year old son (#3) will be having some tests to check for autism.

I'll be sending out more reminders as November marches on and our Christmas meeting approaches.

Welcome to our blog!!

We are a Military MOPs group meeting at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 9:15am - 11:15am. We currently meet at the Fort Dix Main Chapel.

"MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs.

We provide childcare during the meetings so we can enjoy some wonderful adult conversation!
